Apparently intent upon maintaining the hallowed summer swan-dive tradition, the Angels are reportedly dangling Jim Edmonds, a proven everyday star, as bait to lure a “first-line” pitcher.

Arithmetically, it’s nonsense. At best, a pitcher can win one in five playing dates. Edmonds’ stats, over his five-year career, indicate he betters that ratio.

The Angels’ brain trust might give the preceding pause out of respect for the passing of Nolan Ryan, Wally Joyner and Dante Bichette.
