Police unveiled a computer system recently that will help 911 dispatchers take emergency calls from the hearing- and speech-impaired. The telephone system, called Vesta Intelligent Work Station, is a device similar to a teletypewriter that sends tones that activate written messages. Hearing-impaired callers formerly called 911 through a two-part California relay system. Garden Grove police officials urge the hearing-impaired to dial 911 in an emergency. The system is operating.
