A Cool New Mouse Pad

Share

Although product designers are beginning to move the personal computer beyond its bland gray or oatmeal box, so far they’ve pretty much overlooked the small-but-essential mouse.

That’s changing. Based on the traditional art of hand-woven rugs, a new line of MouseRugs brings an unexpected element of tiny elegance to the home office.

They’re the brainchild of Brown Abrams, president of FiberLok Inc., in Fort Collins., Colo. To demonstrate the company’s product Lextra, a durable fiber coating, Abrams tried it on a mouse pad. When it proved a perfect surface for a mouse, he upgraded it into classical rug designs.

Priced at $19.95, MouseRugs can be purchased online at https://www.mouserug.com or in Los Angeles at the Museum of Contemporary Art. “We’ve had them for a couple of months,” said Scott Morin, a MOCA gift shop employee. “They’re so cute--they have fringe just like a real little rug.”
