A Listener’s Lament

I’m sorry to see that KRLA, a fixture in L.A. radio since 1959, is about to become yet another talk station (“KRLA’s Switch to Talk Will End Rock Era on AM Dial in L.A.,” Nov. 16).

Although KRLA’s current R&B-oriented; playlist excludes rockabilly and other early rock genres, it’s still the only station that comes close to playing a decent amount of ‘50s music, and it certainly is the only one that still occasionally surprises and delights the listener by unearthing a great old forgotten oldie or obscure regional hit, something the FM oldie stations, with their consultant-driven, same-100-songs-over-and-over-again format would never do.
