Snap Technologies Sues CNET Over Name

CNET Inc., a publisher of technology news Web sites and television shows, was sued by closely held Internet company Snap Technologies Inc. over the name of CNET’s Snap Internet directory. In the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, Snap Technologies claims it has used the Snap name and trademark for online services since March 1996. The San Francisco-based company runs the CollegeEdge Web site, which gives students information about applying to college. Snap Technologies said it is seeking an injunction to prevent CNET from using the Snap name, as well as unspecified monetary damages. San Francisco-based CNET’s shares fell $3.25 to $56.75 on Nasdaq.
