Martin’s Big Half Leads to Bruin Win
Maylana Martin scored 18 of her 30 points and grabbed 12 of her 18 rebounds in the second half to power No. 12 UCLA to an 86-68 win Saturday over No. 5 North Carolina in the semifinals of the Rainbow Wahine Classic at Honolulu.
UCLA (3-2) plays Kentucky in Sunday’s championship game. North Carolina (6-1) plays Hawaii for third place.
“I actually felt kind of less pressure in the second half,” Martin said. “I wanted to come out and do something against these guys. I want to play well against good teams.”
Martin scored eight points during a 13-0 run that stretched her team’s lead to 34-18 with four minutes to play in the first half.
UCLA led 38-27 at halftime, but baskets by Juana Brown and Chanel Wright put North Carolina within 38-31, but the Tar Heels came no closer.
