* A Food and Drug Administration committee on Tuesday begins reviewing Monsanto Co.'s much-anticipated arthritis drug, Celebrex, made by its G.D. Searle & Co. subsidiary. The review will play an important part in Monsanto's research efforts and in its strategy for remaining independent. Analysts say Celebrex could achieve annual revenue of $1 billion within three to five years. Tests show that Celebrex is as strong as prescription painkillers but has fewer side effects. Merck & Co. is developing a similar drug called Vioxx.
* Microsoft founder Bill Gates and entertainment titan Walt Disney are among the 20 "most influential builders" of the 20th century as anointed by Time magazine and CBS News. Others on this list include: Ray Kroc, founder of the McDonald's fast-food chain; automobile pioneer Henry Ford; union boss Walter Reuther of the United Auto Workers; A.P. Giannini, founder of Bank of America; and cosmetics maven Estee Lauder, the only woman on the list.
