40 Artists Will Display Work at Fine Arts Fair

More than 40 Valley-area artists will display their works and compete for cash prizes at the first Chatsworth Fine Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot.

On exhibit will be some 300 works of art in a wide range of mediums, including chalk, pencil, metal, stone and wood sculptures, pottery, oil and watercolor paintings and photographs, said Cindy Medlynn, co-chairwoman of the Chatsworth Fine Arts Council, the sponsor of the inaugural event.

“For our first time out, we are pleased with the number of artworks and the number of people who wanted to participate,” Medlynn said. “A lot of Valley-area artists feel that there are not enough places to exhibit their art, and we want this to become something that will grow over the years.”

Western painter and sculptor Neil Boyle will be on hand Saturday to judge the juried portion of the art festival.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three artists in two divisions: two-dimensional and sculpture.

Classic American and European cars from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s will also be on display. The festival will also offer live musical performances by the popular Windham Hill artist Lisa Lynne Franco and the Celestial Winds. Performances will be throughout the afternoon on both days beginning at noon. The Tubaczars, a Burbank-based brass group, are scheduled to perform Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The fine arts fair will be held both days from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot, 10040 Old Depot Plaza Road, Chatsworth. The depot is west of Canoga Avenue, between Lassen and Devonshire streets. Information: (818) 341-2428.
