Greenspan

I consider myself a conservative, but reading Patrick Buchanan drives me crazy. His Sept. 27 Column Right about Alan Greenspan read not like reasoned argument but, instead, like a political stump speech. It’s a shame because intelligent discussion is needed.

To call Greenspan’s testimony before Congress “a near panic” and refer to his comments as a “pirouette” is a ludicrous misrepresentation. For any serious observer who has followed the process, it instantly colors Buchanan’s whole column as some sort of bogus posturing. Unfortunately, if one digs deeper, most of the other serious issues he discusses are mixed in with utterly false statements, such as his characterization of 19th century American protectionism.

Pat, quit running for office and lend some of your considerable intellectual skills to a truly serious problem.
