BUSINESS CALENDAR
* An orientation for the Start-up Business Training course offered by the Ventura County Entrepreneur Academy and the Ventura County Workforce Development Division will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the Employment Development Department, 635 S. Ventura Road, Oxnard. The seven-week course is designed to train unemployed individuals to start their own businesses and is free to qualified candidates.

* The Ventura-Oxnard chapter of the National Assn. of Women in Construction will hold a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. today at the Oxnard Hilton Inn, 600 E. Esplanade Drive, Oxnard. The program, “What Your Mother Didn’t Tell You About Money,” will be presented by Vicki Eagleson Arndt of American Express Financial Services Inc.

* “Access to Capital,” one of a series of courses offered by the Small Business Development Center, will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at 5700 Ralston, Suite 310, Ventura. Other classes are scheduled for Oct. 22 and Nov. 6.

* The American Advertising Federation District 15 awards and the October Member Mixer of the Ventura County Advertising Federation will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Ventura Harbor, Ventura. Members can start the evening either at Spinnaker Seafood Broiler or Harbor Sushi Teriyaki Grill. The evening includes dinner and 20-minute harbor cruises.

* A fall Tabletop Showcase will be offered by the Ventura Chamber of Commerce from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Doubletree Hotel, 2055 E. Harbor Blvd., Ventura. The event, also the October chamber mixer, will feature 97 display booths by Ventura businesses and hors d’oeuvres.
