Police Warn Residents After Series of Burglaries

A recent series of early morning home burglaries have prompted police to warn residents to protect themselves.

Four burglaries occurred last week between Tuesday and Saturday in the area bounded by Lincoln Boulevard and 14th Street on the west and east and by Wilshire Boulevard and Arizona Avenue on the north and south, said Lt. Gary Gallinot of the Santa Monica Police Department.

In all cases, Gallinot said, the burglar entered through an unlocked or open door or window between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. On all occasions, the burglar fled without any stolen property after encountering residents in the homes.

Police describe the burglar as a dark-skinned man of average height and weight in his 20s or 30s with black hair combed straight back and a mustache. He was last seen wearing dark shorts with a white short-sleeved T-shirt.

Police urged residents Monday to secure their ground-floor windows and doors before going to bed at night, and to make sure there is sufficient lighting outside their homes.

Anyone who sees a suspicious person who matches the description should call police, Gallinot said.
