Interfaith Dialogue Series to Begin Friday
Corona del Mar religious leader Thomas Thorkelson is helping organize a series of dialogues between Jamal Badawi, a prominent Islamic scholar, and leading clergy members from the Jewish, Roman Catholic and Protestant faiths, beginning Friday at UC Irvine.
Thorkelson, 67, returned last week from the International Children’s Nile Song Festival in Cairo, where he led a group of schoolchildren to represent the United States at the conference.
Friday’s lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the physical science lecture hall. Mediating the discussion will be Maura O’Neill, professor of philosophy and religious studies at Chaffey College.
Other lectures will take place at USC on Saturday and at UCLA on Sunday.
