Volunteers are needed to tutor school-age children in basic spelling, math and reading at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo.

About 25 students have signed up for individual tutoring sessions that started this week, spokesman Jack Carlson said. Ten tutors have signed on, but at least 15 more are needed for the nine-week program, he said.

Volunteers, each matched with a student between the ages 6 and 18, must be at least 16. Sessions are held Monday through Thursday in a homework room at the club.

Volunteers are asked to donate their time from 3 to 5:30 p.m., one day a week, Carlson said. At the end of the session, Dec. 9, there will be a party for volunteers and students.

Applications are available by calling the administrative office at 482-8113 or by coming by the club at 1500 Temple Ave.

The club, which has more than 1,500 members, offers tutoring sessions twice a year.
