Due to funeral services for Fire Capt. Thomas O. Wall, who died Monday of a heart attack while battling Riverside County wildfires, open house events scheduled for Saturday at fire stations countywide will take place Oct. 17 instead.

“Our entire focus has been [on] the emotional needs of Capt. Wall’s family and to assist them in their time of need,” Fire Authority Chief Charles “Chip” Prather said in a statement. “We regret having to postpone this annual event. However, our entire organization is in mourning and we simply felt it would be in the best interest of the community to reschedule it.”

The cancellation does not apply to municipal fire stations.

The authority serves Buena Park, Cypress, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, Placentia, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster, Yorba Linda and unincorporated areas.
