Candidates to Debate Measures B, C on TV
City Council members Tim Keenan and Anna Piercy will debate ballot measures B and C tonight on the KOCE-TV show “Real Orange.”
Measures B and C address the need for a planning commission, which the city eliminated in 1978. A planning commission’s duty is to review and decide upon city land use matters.
Keenan supports Measure B, which would authorize the City Council to delegate planning powers and functions to a planning commission, administrative body or hearing officer.
Piercy favors Measure C, or the People’s Right to Vote Charter, which says the City Council must get voter approval before creating a planning commission, including its cost, duties and appointments.
“These are important issues, and this is our attempt to let the people know how it will affect them,” Keenan said.
The debate will air at 7 and 11 p.m.
