It’s about looking good and feeling good, but most of all it’s about getting a job.

With an event designed to motivate people to find employment, get the career they want and change their lives, Dress-4-Success and the Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) regional office will hold the first Career Expo at Panorama Mall on Saturday.

“We’re holding the expo because we realize there are a lot of people out there seeking employment,” said Janet Lavender, founder of Dress-4-Success, which provides professional clothing for low-income job-seekers.

“The biggest obstacle for many without much money is getting prepared for a job, whether that means their appearance, training or resume skills,” Lavender said. “We want to give them the encouragement they need to feel better about themselves and get that job.”

Along with a fashion show by Dress-4-Success, GAIN, a Los Angeles County Office of Education welfare-to-work program, will provide job search and resume tips and other career-enhancement information.

Career make-overs will be provided by Cover Girl and Bally’s Fitness has scheduled an exercise demonstration. Inspirational speakers are also scheduled to speak on topics such as “Overcoming Obstacles” and “Getting Paid.”

The Career Expo is free to the public and runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Panorama Mall, 8401 Van Nuys Blvd.
