Foothill, Hillview Get Grants for High-Tech
Foothill and Hillview high schools have received Digital High School Education Grants from the California Department of Education.
Foothill will receive up to $580,200 for wiring, computers and software to develop curriculum resources and train teachers.
Hillview, a continuation high school near Foothill, will receive $48,900.
The campuses join 17 other Orange County high schools that will receive more than $9.2 million in state grants. They are among 315 high schools dividing $136 million.
“This grant will help make technology work for our kids,” Foothill Principal Dan Brooks said. “We have the basics--wiring and hardware--from money contributed through the Foothill Education Fund and Tustin Public Schools Foundation. Thus, the funding from this grant will be used for curriculum and teacher training.”
A committee of Foothill High teachers, staff, parents, district administrators, community leaders and business partners is working on the grant and a long-term technology plan.
Last year, Tustin and Sycamore high schools received the state grants. Sycamore is an independent study school.
