Boy Dead, Girl Shot; Assailant Kills Self
A man shot and killed a 9-year-old boy, wounded his sister and then held police at bay for 12 hours before killing himself. Alan Waterhouse, 46, shot himself in the head after police twice lobbed tear gas into a Mount Pleasant, Pa., apartment and spent hours negotiating to resolve what they thought was a hostage situation. Police arrived after Waterhouse had fired shots from an apartment belonging to Cheryl Barnhart, whom he had dated. Police found Barnhart’s son, Jeremy, dead in a bedroom. Jeremy’s sister, 14-year-old Cori, was shot in the chest and fled.
