No Doubt, the hit rock band from Anaheim, will launch its new Web site with an hourlong Internet video chat on Oct. 25. The host for the 6 p.m. session is Pat Smear, the former Germs and Nirvana guitarist. Dubbed No Doubt Land, the Web site, at https://nodoubt.com, promises to be a veritable Mickey Mouse Club of information, pictures, contests, etc., for No Doubtniks. No Doubt’s last release, “Tragic Kingdom,” has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide, according to Interscope Records, the band’s label. Having recorded a batch of new songs over the summer, No Doubt is writing and recording this fall, with a mid-1999 release projected for a new album.

Two aspiring Irvine opera singers have won the chance to compete in next month’s Western Regional Preliminiaries for a position with New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Bruce Harlan Sledge, 28, and Susan D. Miller, 25, won first and second place, respectively, in local Met-sponsored auditions held Saturday at Chapman University in Orange. Sledge and Miller also won cash awards of $500 and $300, respectively. Margit Jensen of Anaheim took third place at Saturday’s audition, and Hyun Sub Lee of Buena Park placed fourth.
