Dedication Coming Up for Roller Hockey Rink

Share

The city’s first roller hockey rink will be dedicated Saturday.

The $273,000 Arnold/Cypress Park Roller Hockey Rink was a joint project by the cities of Cypress and La Palma, said June Liu, Cypress recreation services manager.

As part of the partnership, La Palma contributed $83,000 to the project. The rest of the money came from Cypress’ general fund, the Recreation and Park District capital project fund and grant money, Liu said.

The 80-by-180-foot roller hockey rink includes benches, a scorer’s booth, penalty boxes, bleacher seating and court lighting.

Cypress and La Palma will work together to create youth and adult instructional and league programs, expected to begin in January.

The district will offer a few roller hockey workshops in November.

The rink is part of the $850,000 Arnold/Cypress Park Renovation Project, which is scheduled for completion next spring.

The project includes two additional parking lots, constructed in June, and renovation of the park’s picnic pavilion and meeting room, which should be ready for use in mid-November.

The park renovation project also includes improved athletic fields, security lighting, playground equipment and construction of multipurpose courts.

A hockey game demonstration and refreshments will highlight the rink dedication, which begins at 9 a.m.

The park is at 8611 Watson St., west of Walker Street.
