Women to Get Individual Training for Breast Exams
Physicians from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center will offer individual sessions to teach women how to perform breast self-examinations correctly.
The free breast examination self-teaching program will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at Picture Your Health, the center’s screening facility on the seventh floor of the Beverly Center shopping mall.
Sessions take about 30 minutes, and an appointment is required. Women in the self-examination classes will also receive a discount coupon for a mammogram at the facility. Studies show that breast self-exams and annual mammograms are the best methods of early detection of breast cancer for women over 35, said oncologist Philomena McAndrew, medical director of the breast examination self-teaching program.
