Seeking Waivers
Last month, Orange County school districts replaced bilingual education with English-only instruction. But under Proposition 227, parents can file waivers after 30 days of English-only, asking that children be taught in their primary language. Most districts have not received any requests. Here are those that have:
District: Requests
Anaheim City School District: 10
Anaheim Union High School District: 123
Fullerton School District: 2
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District: 1,000
Santa Ana Unified School District: 2,037
Note: Garden Grove Unified School District mailed letters to parents Monday, and could receive requests in coming weeks.
