It’s the Criticism That’s Cliched
Yes, I know there are more pressing or maybe depressing Times articles to respond to, but the Jimmy Buffett concert review made this longtime fan write (“Buffett Wasting Away in a Creative Dullsville,” Oct. 12).
Talk about being predictable and lacking creativity, the review by John Roos used the tired, rehashed, worn-out claims that the entertainer is recycling his act, not extending his artistic reach and not reinventing his material.
I’m sure Mr. Roos used his Xerox copy of Rod Stewart, Beach Boys, etc. reviews. He only had to change a couple of words. Instead of calling Stewart the familiar aging troubadour, he calls Buffett a gracious bartender.
You miss the entire point. People don’t go to hear these bands or performers hoping for a fresh or reinvented sound. They go to listen to the body of work [created] over the years.
Next year, when Buffett sells out again, give your ticket to someone who will enjoy it. The Brian Wilson and Crosby, Stills & Nash numbers were great. Yes, I am over 21 and appreciate things that have been around for more than 18 months.
