Ferrara Sets Mark in UCI’s Victory

UC Irvine’s Simone Ferrara set a school career assist record Friday, recording her 26th assist in the Anteaters’ 2-0 victory over Long Beach State in Big West Conference women’s soccer.

Ferrara, a senior, surpassed the 24 assists of Shawna Berke (1991-94) when she sent a free kick in front of the goal. Sophomore Stephanie Rigamat knocked it past goalkeeper Dana Crutchfield in the 31st minute to give Irvine (10-2-2, 4-0-1) a 1-0 lead.

Rigamat, who leads the Anteaters with 10 goals and 23 points, scored Irvine’s second goal.

In Mountain Pacific State Federation men’s soccer:

UCLA 2, UC Irvine 1--Former Los Alamitos High star Pat Lee scored on a penalty kick in the 55th minute to bring UCI within a goal. Kevin Mehrens had seven saves for the Anteaters (6-6, 0-1). Sasha Victorine and Seth George scored for the second-ranked Bruins (10-1, 3-0).
