Principal Clarifies Resignation Story
* I was dismayed by the headlines and related statements in the Sept. 27 article “Principal Quitting After Rejection for Higher Post.” The article misrepresented my reasons for deciding to resign from the Laguna Beach Unified School District.
I did not resign because I was not selected as the assistant superintendent. I did resign, in part, because of the way in which the hiring process was conducted. I strongly believe that qualified inside candidates should be granted formal interviews and consideration equal to that of qualified outside candidates. Having said that, I will respect the candidate who was selected and support her in her new position.
I also want to thank those I have worked with at El Morro and throughout the district for a memorable five years. I will especially miss the children.
Every day on campus I was reminded of the importance, the responsibility and the joy of my profession with every student interaction I encountered throughout the day.
Have you heard the expression “When a child enters a room, everything changes?” I experienced it daily.
