Council to Consider Golf, Housing Plan

Share

The City Council on Tuesday will consider a development agreement for a 330-acre public golf course and residential development near the 18-hole River Ridge Golf Course.

Boundaries of the proposed project are Gonzalez and Patterson roads, the Santa Clara River and Victoria Avenue.

About 185 acres of the Swift Financial Corp. project would be devoted to a new 18-hole public golf course, which would be integrated with the River Ridge Golf Course on Vineyard Avenue. The remainder of the project would include single-family residential uses, churches, a clubhouse and an elementary school site.

Richard Maggio, Oxnard’s community development and special projects director, said some of the project’s expected benefits include the dedication of more than 70 acres for golf course expansion and enhanced appearance of the coastal landfill.

Most of the property is in a landfill area, Assistant City Manager Karen Burnham said.

“Any amenities you can add contributes to the city’s image and is a plus for Oxnard,” she said.

City Manager Ed Sotelo is developing a team to negotiate with the property owners, Burnham said.

If the council determines a development agreement is appropriate, Swift Financial Corp. has the opportunity to file an application to enter into negotiations for such an agreement.

The council meets at 7 p.m. at 305 W. 3rd St.
