Tax Cut in GOP Plans, Armey Says

House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) said the Republican-led Congress will push again next year for a major tax cut and is ready to “run over” President Clinton to get it. Armey said that although the Republicans’ $80-billion tax-reduction plan fizzled, negotiators did agree on a $9.2 billion, nine-year tax package to extend expiring tax credits and provide some benefits for farmers and the self-employed.
