Rainbow Patent Suit

Rainbow Technologies Inc., the Irvine maker of cryptographic products, has been slapped with a patent infringement lawsuit by a San Jose rival.

The suit, filed last month, accuses Rainbow of infringing on Globetrotter Software Inc.’s patent for license management technology. Such technology, often added to commercially sold software, helps prevent piracy, offers users more flexibility and can allow customers to register their products with the manufacturer electronically, among other things.

The federal civil suit, which was disclosed Monday by Globetrotter, seeks undisclosed damages. Officials at Rainbow could not be reached for comment.
