* Charles DeSantis, a nine-year veteran of commercial real estate in Los Angeles, has been named director of retail and office properties for Charles Dunn Co., one of the largest real estate firms in the West.

DeSantis of Calabasas Hills is a graduate of Cal State Northridge. He was previously with Sands Commercial, which merged with Dunn earlier this year.

* James E. Alexander, former president of Technology Retail Solutions, has been named president and chief executive officer of Scala, a leading international provider of multimedia production and broadcasting software.

The Calabasas-based company also announced the appointment of Steve J. Lair to the company’s board of directors. Lair has 28 years in the computer industry and formerly served as an advisor to the chairman of Acer Inc.

Scala’s products are used to help create productions with text, graphics, animation, sound and video.

* Gerald L. Clark of Camarillo, a general agent with Kansas City Life Insurance, has been inducted into the company’s hall of fame. Inductees must have $100 million in life insurance policies in force to qualify.

Clark, owner of the Clark Agency at 484 Mobil Ave. in Camarillo, has qualified for the President’s Club 11 times and the Elite Top Hatters Conference six times and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table.

* The Anacapa chapter of the International Assn. of Administrative Professionals, formerly Professional Secretaries International, has elected Julie Bradburn of Ventura as president for 1998-99. Other officers are Kathy Beery of Ventura, vice president/membership; Victoria Hajek of Ventura, secretary; and Sheila Sanders of Camarillo, treasurer.

The Anacapa chapter serves the Ventura County area and meets monthly at the Oxnard Hilton Inn.

* Dr. Stephen Carter has joined Dr. Maynard Belzer’s obstetrics and gynecology practice in Camarillo. Carter is vice chairman for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, and he recently was chairman of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Committee at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.

He has seven years of clinical experience.

* Thousand Oaks businessman Jack Burke has written a chapter in the book “Best of Class: Building a Customer Service Organization.” The book is part of the Classic Series published by Executive Excellence Publishing.

Burke’s chapter is “Speed: The New Entitlement.”

* Dan Williams has been named senior vice president and general manager and Alex Wilson has been appointed senior consultant for Lee Hecht Harrison. Both men will work in the firm’s Woodland Hills office but will oversee business in Ventura County.

Lee Hecht Harrison, which has offices throughout the United States, Europe and Australia, provides career services including outplacement, executive coaching and career development.
