Regarding the Senate race:

Sen. Barbara Boxer’s attempts to portray Matt Fong as an extremist on defense matters are laughable. It is Boxer, herself, who should be considered extreme.

Since her earliest days in Congress, Boxer has been a leading voice for cutting defense spending and being a consistent critic of nearly every military program ever conceived. Her animosity for the military is exceeded only by her blatant double standard for sexual misconduct as it relates to the commander in chief. As a senator, she has supported Clinton’s defense agenda (or lack thereof), which commits our troops to massive and unfocused peacekeeping efforts throughout the world while cutting the budget that supports them. Her defiance against any sort of missile defense system proves her lack of knowledge and appreciation of the threats that await us in the future.

Boxer’s lack of expertise in, and commitment to, the defense of our country would prove fateful as we enter a new era of terrorism and missile threats from abroad.

I am utterly amazed at how out of touch our current state treasurer is. While debating Sen. Boxer, Matt Fong advocated removing all limits on campaign contributions and restricting a woman’s right to choose (Oct. 16). Additionally, Fong has proposed eliminating taxes for those who live off inheritance while raising the taxes of working families.

Is it possible that so few voters will turn out on election day that this puppet of the right wing may actually be elected?

To the repeated charges of hypocrisy against Boxer in newspapers and on the air, why has no one pointed out the difference between the unwelcome attentions of Clarence Thomas and the enticement and entrapment of President Clinton?
