Nuclear Weapons

Gary Milhollin’s commentary (“Stop Exporting Nuclear Technology,” Oct. 14) was right on the money. Because of the huge potential profit from the sale of weapons to the world, special interest groups representing this sector of the export market have enormous influence in Washington. The result is minimal regulation on weapons export and intensive marketing campaigns to sell weapons to nations that cannot afford or even need the weapons (e.g., NATO expansion).

In order to counter the threat of these weapons falling into the hands of countries, factions, or terrorist groups hostile to the U.S., the military-industry complex, in a mutually beneficial relationship with the government, is constantly developing new weapons technology. Your tax dollars at work. It is a win-win situation for arms manufacturers and exporters who are laughing all the way to the bank.
