Universal Electronics Inc.: The Cypress-based supplier of universal remote controls for home video and audio equipment posted net income of $1.6 million, or 24 cents a share, for the third quarter, 33% higher than the $1.2 million, or 19 cents a share, recorded a year ago. Sales were down 29% to $23.7 million from $33.5 million. The 1997 figure included sales of $7.5 million from discontinued business. Reduced shipments in satellite broadcasting and private label businesses led to the lower comparable third-quarter sales, the company said.
