Domestic Violence Group Receives $5,000

* The Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence received contributions totaling $5,000 from the Amgen Foundation. The foundation serves as the charitable arm of Amgen Inc. The coalition provides direct services to victims of family violence and sexual assault and operates community education programs.

League Gives Service Award to CLU President

* Cal Lutheran University President Luther Luedtke received a Distinguished Community Service Award from the Conejo Valley Anti-Defamation League. The league commended Luedtke and the university for programs that introduce students and community members to a variety of multicultural issues via lectures, seminars and events. Luedtke was also recognized for contributions to international understanding through his work in Germany and India and with the U.S. Information Agency.

Leadership Academy Gets Corporate Grants

* The Ventura County Leadership Academy received grants from two corporate donors to support its community leadership development program.

Amgen Foundation provided $5,000 and Pacific Bell gave $2,500. The academy also announced elected officers for the Alumni and Friends of the Ventura County Leadership Academy. Lyn MacConnaire will be president and Sharon Dwyer vice president. Both are residents of Ventura and recent graduates of the academy program. Suzanne Kitchens is secretary, and Harry Lee, treasurer. Both are from Camarillo.
