Inmate Shootings
* Re “Only California Uses Deadly Force in Inmate Fights,” Oct. 18:
Instead of so much money going into paying for lawsuits, wouldn’t it make more sense to send in teams skilled in conflict resolution to work with the inmates? I would rather have my tax dollars going to some type of rehabilitation that would lessen the rage these people have than to building more prisons and finding more ways to “subdue” inmates. Most will return to our communities, someday, probably with even more anger and rage than they had when they entered the system. Unless there is a different approach to handling prisoners, we’re all going to bear the brunt of that rage in one way or another.
