Interlink Electronics Says Litigation Caused Loss

Interlink Electronics in Camarillo reported a loss of $136,000 or 3 cents per share for the quarter that ended Sept. 30.

Company officials said the loss was due to a one-time charge of $355,000 or 7 cents per share related to the settlement of litigation regarding a customer warranty claim. The 7-year-old claim involved products no longer manufactured by the company.

Excluding the one-time charge, earnings were $219,000 or 4 cents per share for the quarter. Third-quarter revenues were $5.2 million, a 9% increase over third quarter 1997.

“Our operating income continued to show improvements compared to the second quarter of this year,” said E. Michael Thoben, Interlink chairman, CEO and president. “This is largely attributed to our successes with many of the major Japanese electronics manufacturers.”

Interlink designs and manufactures computer pointing devices. The company’s products include wireless hand-held remote controls with “mouse” capability, wireless keyboards, touch pads, pointing sticks and desktop PC pointing devices.

The company maintains offices in Camarillo and Tokyo.
