Hearing Science has the ear of Southern California audiologists.

The San Francisco-based company manages the business affairs of practicing audiologists who would prefer to spend their time doing what they’re trained to do: Giving hearing tests and fitting people with hearing aids. In exchange for the management services, audiologists pay the company a cut of their revenue.

The company expects growing demand for such hearing services as baby boomers enter their 50s--a time when people become susceptible to hearing loss. In recent months, it has lined up contracts to manage practices for individual audiologists in Newport Beach, Westminster, Rancho Cucamonga and San Diego.

“We chose Southern California for expansion because of its population size and the large number of employers and managed-care companies now offering hearing-care benefits there,” said David Pincus, an executive vice president.

Overall, the company runs 13 practices in California and Arizona. By the end of next year, it aims to expand its network to 60.
