Council to Consider Transfer of Funds

Share

The City Council is expected to vote tonight on whether to transfer $100,000 in federal funds from a high school construction project to refurbish the senior center.

The city plans to renovate the former girls gymnasium at Fillmore High School, at 1st and Orchard streets, and will turn the facility into the new home of the Fillmore/Piru Boys & Girls Club.

Because the city acquired more grant money than needed for the $525,000 refurbishing project, it will be able to shift leftover funds to the senior center project as planned.

The public will have a chance at tonight’s hearing to suggest alternative uses for the $100,000 in federal block grant money.

Such funds are allocated for projects that benefit low- to moderate-income residents.

The council also is expected to give second consideration to changing a city film permit ordinance. The changes would end the requirement that a police officer be present for all filming activity and would eliminate a mandatory pre-production meeting between city staff and film crews.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 250 Central Ave.
