PRI Wins Governor’s Race; Foes Protest

Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, celebrated but the opposition cried foul after the world’s longest-ruling party overwhelmingly won a state governor’s race. With 90% of votes counted after Sunday’s election for governor in the northeastern border state of Tamaulipas, the PRI’s Tomas Yarrington had 53.4% of votes cast compared with 26.6% for his nearest rival, Gustavo Cardenas of the conservative National Action Party.
