Jeffrey Stern, Fair Board Member, Dies

Jeffrey Martin Stern, a longtime Newport Beach resident and Orange County Fair and Exposition Center board member, died of cancer Tuesday at his home. He was 56.

Stern held many state and regional leadership posts, the most recent being his appointment to the fair board this year by Gov. Pete Wilson.

Since 1973, the USC graduate had served as president and chief officer of Superior Electrical Advertising Inc. in Long Beach.

Born July 5, 1942, in Los Angeles, Stern later moved to Newport Beach, where he became an avid boater and member of the Balboa Bay and Balboa Yacht clubs. He was a supporter of numerous community, professional and sports groups, including Newport Harbor High School athletics. He was also an amateur ham radio user.

Stern is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nancy; three daughters, Courtney Leigh and Carrie Lynn Stern and Kymberly Anne Spector of Newport Beach; son-in-law William Spector and granddaughter Alana Spector of Newport Beach; sister Carole Culman and brother-in-law William Culman of Tucson; niece Diane Woolsey and nephew Christopher Woolsey of Costa Mesa; and niece Lori Hinton and her husband, John Hinton, of Aptos, Calif.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in memory of Jeffrey M. Stern to the Hoag Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 6100, Newport Beach, 92658-6100.
