TIMES STAFF WRITER

Nine of 10 business managers remain optimistic about the economy, and expect their own businesses to perform better in the coming year, according to a survey by Management Action Programs, a Newport Beach consulting firm.

The nationwide survey of about 600 executives also found that recruitment and employee training are considered top business challenges, along with strategic planning and managing cash flow. Strategic planning fell well short of where they said it should be, with plans completed for an average of 3 1/2 years, compared with an ideal of more than 5 years.
