ORANGE COUNTY EARNINGS

Varco International Inc.: The Orange-based manufacturer of equipment and machinery for drilling oil and gas wells reported that third-quarter net income gained 12% to $15 million, or 23 cents a share, from $13.4 million, or 21 cents a share, for the 1997 third quarter. Revenue increased 36% to $190.9 million from $140.4 million.
