City to Pick Panel for Housing Project

The City Council is scheduled Wednesday to appoint an ad hoc committee to help prepare a draft development agreement for a 653-home project in north Moorpark.
The Morrison-Fountainwood-Agoura development, located on 445 acres east of Walnut Canyon Road and north of Charles Street, drew attention in 1995 when two rare songbirds--known as gnatcatchers--were spotted on the property.
A habitat conservation plan to preserve the gnatcatcher was among the issues to be addressed in the project’s draft environmental impact report.
The council has scheduled a special meeting with the Planning Commission Sept. 23 to begin talking about the project’s specific plan. The project was formerly known as the JBR Development.
