Zevex International Inc. has agreed to manufacture Cardiac Science Inc.'s combination heart monitor and defibrillator, Irvine-based Cardiac said Wednesday.
The device, marketed under the brand name Powerheart, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and will be available commercially in early 1999, the company said. The product provides automatic detection and treatment of life-threatening heart rhythms.
A Zevex spokeswoman said the company expects contract manufacturing revenue from the Powerheart to exceed $3 million during the first 18 months of production.
Zevex, with 1997 revenue of about $9 million, designs and makes medical devices. Cardiac Science, with 1997 revenue of $1.2 million, designs and markets noninvasive resuscitation devices for cardiac arrest victims.
