Sudan Bombing

The U.S. should send medicines to Sudan to replace the ones lost when the pharmaceutical factory was destroyed (Sept. 1). Regardless of whether that factory also produced chemical weapon precursors, we destroyed the source of medicines for the people in that poverty-stricken area and we need to help those people. We need to demonstrate to them and to the Islamic world that Americans are not “devils,” as Osama bin Laden has accused us of being, but compassionate people who really care about their welfare.

We can demonstrate this by making restitution for any harm we did, and doing what we can to ease the suffering of those people. If they don’t want to accept medicines directly from us, we should sponsor or support a Red Cross or U.N. effort to supply them with the medicines and medical supplies they need. Let’s show the world that we want to do what’s right.
