* General Motors Corp. said it will stop building the Buick Riviera and the Oldsmobile 88 cars this fall as part of an effort to consolidate its product lines and cut costs. The move will idle about half of the 3,700 employees at GM’s Orion Township, Mich., assembly plant for about six months. Redesigned versions of other models will then be assembled at the plant.

* Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 968,000 1995-97 Accords to check for a problem in the air-conditioning wiring that could cause a short circuit and possibly an under-the-hood fire. There have been no accidents or injuries reported as a result of the problem.

* Volkswagen will close two Brazilian plants for 10 days starting Sept. 28 in an effort to offset a downturn in sales caused by soaring interest rates in the country. The German auto maker said its closing will idle 20,000 workers and cut output by 15,000 units.

* Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc., which has seen its stock price fall 67% over the last year, said its chief financial officer, Bruce McKee, resigned, but did not say why. McKee, 53, could not be reached for comment.
