Bill Gates Tops List of Wealthiest in Industry

Bill Gates may be under fire from federal trustbusters, but Microsoft Corp.’s chairman is still the world’s wealthiest technology executive with an estimated net worth in excess of $58 billion, according to a survey released by Forbes ASAP. Microsoft also contributed to the wealth of No. 2 Paul Allen, who co-founded the company with Gates and is worth nearly $17 billion, and No. 3 Steve Ballmer, who was recently promoted to president and has $13 billion to his name. Dell Computer Corp. founder Michael Dell ranks fourth, with a net worth of $12.7 billion. The richest high-tech Californian is Intel Corp. founder Gordon Moore, who ranked fifth in the survey with a net worth of $7.6 billion. Other Californians in the Top 10 are No. 6 Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp., No. 8 William Hewlett of Hewlett-Packard Co. and No. 10 David Duffield of PeopleSoft Inc.
