Starr’s Report

Kenneth Starr reads the Bible every morning; one wonders why. Is he thumbing Leviticus or the Song of Solomon to fire himself up for this sanctimonious pursuit? Bill Clinton’s peccadilloes and petty evasions are poor grounds for impeachment. Is the country so immature that it must censure his fortune, or misfortune, in becoming entangled with a younger woman’s sexual desires? This is impeachment by titillation of the country by the Christian right.

In “Details of an Ill-Fated, Surreal Cover-Up Arise” (Sept. 15), you state that the president and his “damage control operation” acted “quickly and decisively to knock down potentially explosive stories.” The article goes on to say that Clinton asked Monica Lewinsky if Linda Tripp could be trusted, and she said, “yes.” I wonder what might have happened if Monica had said “no.”

As a lifelong Democrat, I don’t know if the Starr report is grounds for impeachment and removal from office, but Clinton should resign.
