From Times Wire Reports

Republican Linda Lingle believes that Democrats helped her win her party’s gubernatorial nomination, and she will need to keep those crossover votes to become the state’s first GOP governor in 36 years. Lingle, the 45-year-old two-time mayor of Maui, was a runaway winner in her party’s primary Saturday and will face incumbent Democrat Ben Cayetano in the Nov. 3 general election. With 99% of precincts reporting, Lingle had 105,626 votes, or 69%, to five-time Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi’s 46,946 votes, or 31%. A nearly eight-year economic slide has stifled business, fueling widespread discontent that Republicans are trying to exploit.
