Law Updated on Adult Businesses

Tustin’s ordinance regulating sexually oriented businesses is stronger thanks to a City Council vote this week.
The new ordinance is substantially the same as its predecessor but takes into account more-recent court decisions, said Elizabeth Binsack, director of community development.
Though Tustin does not have any adult businesses, the city’s previous ordinance failed to set adequate regulations, Binsack said. The new ordinance will restrict adult businesses to certain zones, which constitute 9% of city territory and will require distance between the businesses and churches, homes, parks and schools.
The ordinance also requires adequate lighting and security at sexually oriented businesses and prohibits their operation from midnight to 9 a.m.
Since February, the city had adopted two interim ordinances while it drafted the final ordinance.
