Easing a frightful concern, the City Council this week agreed to contribute $2,500 for Tustin High School’s annual Tiller Trick or Treat.

Assistant Principal Tim O’Donoghue said the money will be used to buy candy for about 1,500 children expected at the event.

“I just don’t want kids there without candy,” O’Donoghue said. “That’s my worst fear.”

In addition, the council suggested the student body seek another $1,000 from the Tustin Community Foundation, which often assists the city in making such donations.

In Halloweens past, the council has granted $2,000 to the event for five schools. Heideman and Tustin Ranch elementary schools have been added this year, accompanying Beswick, Lambert, Nelson, Thorman and Veeh schools.

The city announced it will hold a Halloween event of its own at Heideman Elementary School from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30. The Heideman Halloween Haunt will include carnival games, candy, music and a costume contest.
